One in Christ, but do I know you?

We often do not recognize other Christians.  Something about us births suspicion, even rejection of someone we lack a personal acquaintance, congregational affiliation, or understanding of their faith walk in Christ.  Jesus confronts his disciples with such a situation:

“Teacher,” said John, “we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.”

“Do not stop him," Jesus said. "No one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, for whoever is not against us is for us.”   ~ Mark 9:38-41

We that proclaim Christ – as the man overpowering demons, or someone who heals or witnesses or serves in Jesus’ Name – like you, are one in Christ.  “You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,” and the details of nationality, status in life, denomination, or such things we focus on are not important; only our unity in the eternal promise of God (cf. Gal 3:26-29).

What Three People Are Needed in Your Walk With Christ?

A follower of Christ needs three people in their life, three people who can enable your maturity in the Lord and solidify earnest discipleship to continue throughout your natural life.

Who do you need?

1. A Paul:
Someone who is an elder in the faith, full of the Holy Spirit, and Godly knowledge and wisdom, to be a mentor to you, to teach you Christ’s commands and how to obediently live the Gospel.  You will never cease needing such person.

2. A Barnabas:
A Christlike encourager to lift you up and keep you full of joy in the Lord; a true friend who is honest, uplifting, and through favorable means keeping you accountable.

3. A Timothy:
Take upon your heart a Timothy, or two or several, to mentor, to speak Christ’s ways into.  Speak life into someone who is newer in the faith than you; show them how to live the gospel.

This is essential, Christlike, to be someone like your “Paul,” or be someone who is nothing less than a Barnabas.

This is how discipleship occurs.

In life as a follower of Christ you will have those who teach and encourage you.  Find, embrace others to mentor.  You are a Timothy, you are to be a Paul, and be nothing less than a Barnabas.  Now the best part, Jesus said, “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them" (Matt 18:20).
